A catastrophic detonation at a law enforcement facility in the Kashmir region under Indian control has caused the deaths of nine persons and injuries to thirty-two others, according to official statements.
The incident occurred when a cache of impounded blast substances unintentionally detonated during management operations.
Chronology of Incidents
The detonation occurred on Friday night at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where blast substances confiscated in Faridabad in the northern province of Haryana were being held provisionally.
Local law enforcement head stated that the blast materials were pending scientific analysis when a "extremely tragic" accident during handling caused their explosion at approximately 11:20 PM local.
Police Announcements
Security forces asserted that this was an "accidental detonation" and as opposed to a militant action. "Alternative theories regarding the origin of this occurrence is unwarranted," stressed the law enforcement head during a journalist meeting.
The law enforcement facility suffered extensive destruction from the explosion, with nearby constructions also being affected by the strong explosion.
Aftermath and Fatalities
Several automobiles were "consumed by fire and reduced to charred husks, with debris scattered across the location," according to authority statements.
"The force of the explosion was so powerful that some physical fragments were found in adjacent homes, approximately 100-200 metres away the law enforcement facility," mentioned an police contact.
Most of the victims were security officials, along with technical investigation team, two investigative imaging experts, and a tailor who was accompanying the group.
Authority Reaction
The territory's Administrative Head expressed condolences and declared that an investigation had been ordered into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have commissioned a probe to establish the origin of the inadvertent detonation. Profoundly distressed by the death of valuable individuals due to profoundly sorrowful unintentional explosion at Nowgam police station in Srinagar. My condolences to the grieving relatives. I pray for quick healing of the harmed," wrote the leader on online channels.
