On his first day in his new role, Zohran Mamdani committed to “transform” America's largest city, promising “a fresh chapter” and an audacious start to his administration.

An Unprecedented Figure

The 34-year-old figure, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first mayor born in Africa. He additionally marked a milestone by being the inaugural to be sworn in using the Qur'an.
